This was a very complex addition/renovation project that connected two existing buildings, the existing Cumberland County Justice Center and the abandoned 1930’s original Cumberland County High School.

The existing Justice Center remained fully operational while the new 26,000 sf addition consisting of four new courtrooms, judicial chambers, jury rooms and support spaces was under construction.

The addition was designed with a new three story lobby that connected to the three story old high school building allowing the old building to house all of the County Clerk spaces to support the judicial functions. The addition is designed for two future floors as county growth dictates the need.

This project is an excellent example of LPE’s experience and ability to design a new structural system within close constraints to an existing building. The new structural foundation was designed with minimum impact on the existing 1930’s building.
